STAITHES
Close to the highest cliffs in England, Staithes village is tucked between between two headlands which shelter the tiny harbour.
​
James Cook, came here in 1744 as an apprentice and more recently its cottages were a magnet for artists, and the village became home to the famous Staithes group of impressionist painters in the early 1900s.
​
Staithes retains many old alleyways connecting the streets, including Dog Loup, the narrowest street in the North of England at only eighteen inches wide.
​
In Staithes itself you will find Art Galleries, a museum , a deli, several pubs inc. the famous Cod & Lobster Inn on the quayside
​
Close by you will find the beautiful beaches at Runswick and Sandsend, and Whitby.
